FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How is your test different than other companies?

Our results are tribe and country-specific. Theirs are percentages of global ancestry. Our database has over 33,000 African samples. Our closest competitor has 621 African samples.

Which test should I take?

Take the maternal test (MatriClan Test) if you want to trace your mother's mother's mother's line back 2,000 years. Probability of returning an African result = 92%.

Take the paternal test (PatriClan Test) if you want to trace your father's father's father's line back 2,000 years. Probability of returning an African result = 65%.

Do I have to participate in the R400 Summit Community Reveal?

No. You can choose to have your results sent to you by mail when they are complete.

What do you do with my DNA?

AfricanAncestry.com does not sell, share or research your DNA. Our lab destroys the genetic material once a result is determined.

Will you tell me percentages?

AfricanAncestry.com gives results that are more specific than percentages. We tell you the present-day African country and tribe that you share ancestry with, when the lineage you trace is African. We do not give percentages of global ancestries.

How can you be so specific?

AfricanAncestry.com uses the largest database of African lineages in the world (over 33,000 samples) to analyze one branch of your family tree, either through mother to mother to mother or father to father to father. We compare a specific portion of your maternal or paternal DNA to the samples in that database to find ancestry matches.
